Ella has a fever

Ella has been with me all week because starting Monday night, she has had fevers. We were really hoping she would be better by today, because she had a field trip at daycare, which she missed the first trip also because she was sick. I think these are the only two times she has been sick. Poor girl. The tylenol does wonders for her, but as soon as it wears off, she starts getting really warm. So, needless to say, we have been laying low for the past 3 days. I think our dog is even feeling cooped up. She has been a wild thing the last couple of days.
Last night I did get out for an hour or so to go to dream dinners to cook up some meals that we can freeze. If you all haven't done something like this, it is a great way to cook. Definitely my type of cooking, since I really don't cook much but the basics. Everything is already cut up for you and you just dump it all into bags, then freeze it and pop it out to thaw and cook usually in 30 minutes or less. I love it!! So I did that last night!
Ella is telling me to be quiet, hehe, I guess my typing is waking up her babies. She is so funny! She has been very challenging lately as well. Some of you may disagree with this but I did spank her the other day,and you know that is the only thing that works these days. Any time I say, do you want a spanking, she does what she is supposed to do. Otherwise, she just walks the other way. I don't think a spank from time to time is abusive. It is far from it! Anyway, I hope none of you turn me in,hehe. Thank you all for your comments! I gotta go, Ella is trying to sleep. hehe. Enjoy the Olympics! Talk to you soon. shawndra

You could always count on my oldest to be sick when it was party day at school. She didn't like that but it's how it worked out. I hope Ella feels better soon so you can get out of the house a bit. I don't think a swat when needed is out of line. It was the only effective method with our second. All the other things we tried we got the eat !@#$ look. She is VERY strong willed to this day. We always said she'd either be president or in prison. Well, it looks like rain for a few days YUCK! But hopefully it will do it's thing and move out, bringing back pool weather. It's August, times running out to enjoy the pool. Enough rambling. Take care of the little munchkin and enjoy those "home" cooked dinners. Sounds like my knid of meal!

There are not to many children that get cuter then Ella!!!! I get a chuckle with some of the things that little girl says and does!!! I agree with you and Kelley, a swat on the backside is what they need sometimes, I know growing up I had a spanking or two....well maybe three..... I love dogs, we have three, and just observing how animals correct their young is interesting..... anyhow, I am checking your blog everyday even thought I don't write much...Sending you a hug....or Marilyn can give you one for me next time you see her!!! A spanking out of love never hurt anyone. So ridiculous people say otherwise.

I spanked both of my kids and they turned out fine. You are great parents. Follow your instincts.

Hope Ella is feeling better.

I strongly believe in spanking in love. Take care of the problem, then love the child.

I have spanked my kids in their younger years ,because it was the only thing that worked.I could talk to them, give them time outs til I was blue in the face and they didnt care so when I spanked everything became good again. Now their teens and so spanking really doesnt serve a purpose,so now I can talk to them and get the results I want.I never used a belt just my hand.I see NOTHING wrong with a good old fashioned spanking now and again as long as it is not done in anger and that love is given after.
Parenting is very hard and you just do what is right for you and your kid.

Oh my...I think we have the same child! Stubborn as all get out...of course, my husband says she gets that from moi! LOL

Good news is that all of these traits will serve her well in adulthood! She will be an indpendent, self-assured, resourceful woman! :)

Shawndra- Sorry Ella has been under the weather- I guess hand foot mouth is rampant right now- can see a lot of fever w/it... contagious for the week surounding it if she has it FYI- and can get it more than once sadly. I have to say- Aidan is doing much the same with the emotional outbursts. Reminding him of appropriate ways of speaking to us is helping- but it can be very trying... Esp when he is biiting poor True... (and hitting.... lovely I know) I hope you are feeling better this week. Many hugs and kisses and prayers from ours to yours. Adriane

Hi Shawndra,

I hope your little girl is feeling better soon.

I just found your blog the other day and I wanted to introduce myself because I was diagnosed with signet ring cell colon cancer a couple of months ago. It is such an uncommon cancer that it is easy to feel like I am the only one. I'm sure you know how it is.

I am 42 years old, and mom to an almost 7 year old. It is hard being a mom and having a serious illness like this. I can't imagine having to chase a toddler at the same time! It must be quite a challenge.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and to wish you and your family well.

Take care,
Dori
