Resting

Just a quick follow-up to the last post...

The filter is in place and Shawndra is resting upstairs. We checked into the extended-stay hotel in Omaha about 45 minutes ago.

She mentioned eating at an italian buffet tonight. (Geez... more pounds for Doug!)

- Doug (the hubby)

Thank you everyone for buying us the web cameras! Thanks Andrea and Greg for taking care of our little girl. We're comforted knowing she's with you.

Yum, an italian buffet. That sounds like she must have faired well. Get rest, both of you. You can work on those extra pounds when the stress level drops a bit. For now, enjoy those little indulgences. Thanks for thinking of all of us at this end and posting the updates.

So, you can be "chubby hubby"! Love and all the best to Shawndra, from one of her many "anonymous" fans and friends, Joyce (from Massachusetts)

Shawndra,

I hope you are getting some great rest after a very yummy dinner. You will be in my thoughts and prayers this week and I will be checking the blog for updates. I wanted to attend the prayer vigil before you left, but was unfortunately unable to. Also, I will be saying prayers for Doug's family as well during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Teegarden MD

Thanks for the updates. I'm relieved to hear that today has been relatively smooth. I just hope the rest of the week will be as good.
Thank you for the update on your grandfather, as well. I know you want to be in both places, but we are only human. I was home when my grandfather had a stroke, but was unable to return two weeks later for his funeral. My mom comforted me by reminding me that funerals are more for the living and that everyone knows you love him and them and would be there if you could.
Take care of yourself, because you need to be in good shape to take care of our sweet Shawndra! I hope you enjoyed a BIG and tasty meal tonight and will be able to rest well.

Love, Dustin

I hope the Italian buffet hit the spot! I also pray that you guys sleep well tonight...cuddled close together. God is holding you close. I pray tomorrow is a smooth day and that Thursday is a L-O-N-G day of surgery. Sending so much love and warm AZ prayers.

Shawny and Doug -
It was great getting to see/talk with you via webcam tonight! Thanks to your neighbors for the awesome gift. You guys are incredible. It was fun seeing Ella watch you guys and sing a "night night" song. Well, all are bathed and bedded quietly. We will be continuously thinking of you tomorrow and into Thurs. Doug - Know that our prayer is for Papa to feel God's open arms and the peace when his time has come and that your family can rejoice in his life and legacy and the fact that he is going to a much better place. Also, thank you again to the many who showed up to the prayer vigil in support and the many who were there in spirit from afar. God's love and peace fell upon us when it was needed most for so many of us. We had a wonderful prayer and great songs. Thank you Brandi for orchestrating and thank you Wayne for your faith, wisdom, and words. We love you! Thank you for your outpouring of prayers for Shawndra this week, continue them, they will show us the MIRACLE!!
Love you sis,
Dre

Hi friend!!
I think I emailed you these lyrics while I was in the OC after I saw Wicked but I thought that some of your faithful readers and friends would like to read them. I love the musical Wicked and the first time I saw it and heard this song it made me cry-not and easy thing to do, ya know!! So I just wanted to say hi, I miss you guys already and I can't wait to see what Dr. Foster can do for you! I'm thinking of you both and praying all the time! Love you guys!!

Ang
I'm limited
Just look at me - I'm limited
And just look at you
You can do all I couldn't do, Glinda
So now it's up to you
For both of us - now it's up to you...

I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend...

Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you

Because I knew you

I have been changed for good

Shawndra,

I've been following your blog for about a year now, but this is the first time I've left a comment for you and your family.

You and your family and friends have been in my thoughts and prayers on a very regular basis over the last month as you have been preparing for surgery tomorrow. I was out of town with my husband when you posted about the prayer vigil last week, I would love to have come to it. It is amazing the love that is felt when so many come together to pray. Know that I am and will be praying for you in the hours leading up to surgery, during surgery and the days after surgery as you recover. And Doug and family, I am also praying for you all, as you watch over Shawndra and take care of her as she's recovering. One of my prayers for you all is from Isaiah 41:10. "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Shawndra do not fear, for God is with you; do not be afraid, for He is your God. He will strengthen you and help you; He will hold onto you with His righteous right hand.

Doug do not fear, for God is with you; do not be afraid, for He is your God. He will strengthen you and help you; He will hold onto you with His rightous right hand.

This verse was given to a dear friend of mine when she was fighting colon cancer. I found much comfort in it as I watched her fight her battle. I hope you find comfort in knowing all of your fears and worries can be given to our Father; everything is in His hands.
