Please help me...

As many of you who know me know, I have emailed Oprah recently a few times in hopes of telling my story to the public, as well as hoping for the opportunity to meet her. Even though I don't watch her as much as I used to, I think she has a great platform and does good things with that opportunity. As I have thought of all the things I would like to do in my life, one is to meet her or atleast be in the audience of one of her shows (preferrably her favorite things show, hehe). My mom came up with an idea the other day and I thought I would take her advice and post this blog....
She thought that I should try to reach all the young adults out there, around my age that are fighting cancer. We need to get the word out that young adults are suffering and dying from this disease as well as older people. If you all who are fighting cancer, as well as those who aren't but want to be involved, email oprah by going to oprah.com. Tell her your story and that you want to bring awareness to this disease that many young people are fighting as well. Maybe if we all bombard her with emails, she will realize the epidemic that is going on and that it isn't just one person, but so many that are affected by this that maybe she will help us bring awareness and hopefully that will lead to more minds being concerned, more research and eventually a cure for cancer!!!! So, please email oprah and let's see what we can do to let the world know that we are here, we are fighting and we aren't going away or giving up on the ultimate goal of being cancer free. You can mention my name and my story as well if you want. I just don't want to sit by and let this keep happening to more and more people, especially young people who have a lot of living to do (not that older people don't). Thank you everyone, I hope something good comes out of my battle with cancer. I have it for a reason and I am going to create a reason since I don't know the real reason. Sincerely, Shawndra

PS. still no news yet on when my procedure will be or what my lab results are that I had this morning. I will let you know.

Great idea! I did email her the other day (again) about you and the Jennifer Ireland Foundation...I figure at some point one of those producers has to take notice and at the very least take a look at your blog. After that how could they not bring you on!?

I will lift you up in prayer. Many people in my family have had cancer at a VERY young age. When you are weak - He is strong...when you don't know what to do next...cry out to Him - He has a plan and a purpose. May you and your entire family feel His love surrounding you - His peace deep within. Sunshine

You can e-mail me at melodiechrisman520@hotmail.com so we can keep in touch about this. Love ya. Melodie Chrisman

Shawndra,
I have been a reader of your blog for quite some time (found you through Jennifer Ireland's blog)but this is the first time I have written to you. You are such a breath of fresh air...you are a positive role model for us all. What you are going through is more difficult than I can even imagine. I too am a nurse...as well as a grand-dtr of someone who lost her battle with cancer...and friends who have lived with various types of cancer. I am so proud of you, and greatful, for all of the time, effort, and REAL-ness that you provide in educating others about cancer in young people. You are absolutely right... in that we need to educate and fight this thing with all we have. I am praying for you and your family like crazy. I know in my heart that everything is going to be okay for you. Keep being yourself...we are BLESSED to have you!!

Shawndra, Maggie and I are right there with you. And if you ever want to talk/vent/what ever, we're a phone call away. BTW, Maggie's doing pretty good right now. The doctor gave her 2 weeks chemo break while she finishes up studying for the bar (test is next week!) But she is sooo sick of studying.

Take care and my fingers are crossed for good, good results.

I have never met you Shawndra but you are an inspiration to all women and I e-mailed Oprah for you. I sure hope it helps you get to the show or more importantly ON the show. She needs a woman like you to spread the word about this devastating disease. I visit your blog daily and you inspire me. Thank you for sharing your story with all of us, even if we are strangers.

Dear Shawndra,
I'm Jennifer Ireland's cousin, and although I've looked in on your blog from time to time, my mom asked me to read it this week. I just wanted to let you know that I'm praying for you, this week especially. I also emailed Oprah...hopefully they'll pay attention when they get a barrage of requests all at once!

Shawndra,

My sister was diagnosed with stage 4, level 4 bladder cancer. She was symptomless until a particular incident happened. She has fought throught it as is now cancer free. It wasn't easy, but if she can win, so can you. keep your faith strong and your sense of humour as strong. Good luck with meeting Oprah. We will add you to our prayers.
