PET/CT Today!!!

Hey everyone- This will be quick, as I am in a hurry to take Ella to daycare and head off to my PET/CT scan this morning. My computer has been down the last couple of days, otherwise I would have written this earlier. This scan is just to see where I am at prior to surgery! I pray that the cancer has not spread to any other organs or tissue and that the scan shows decrease in cancer. Remember though, the scan doesn't always show the whole story. That is why Dr. Foster wants to take a look. It could be worse or better than what the scans actually show. Let's pray for the latter! Have a great day everyone! I will let you know when I know something! Shawndra

Shawndra, I'm back home and checking in on you. Glad I did so I can say a prayer for good results on your scan today. May the results be the ones we all hope for. The surgery sure is getting close now, huh? The thought of surgery in general makes me nervous. My heart goes out to you for how you must be feeling as it gets closer. I will continue to hope and pray for nothing but the best results for you.

I was so excited to hear about you having a Grandma that is 95 and is still healthy and independent. We just celebrated my Grandmother's 84th birthday on Feb. 7th. She too is healthy and lives on her own. She walks on her treadmill every day, mows her own grass and shovels her own snow. And she goes faster and usually longer than I do on the treadmill. I often wonder how long she can continue to be healthy and live on her own. Sounds like it could be a while if your Grandma's still doing it at 95. So I'm glad to hear that. Grandma called the day before we left for our trip to tell me she'd miss me since we spend every Sunday together. She was commenting on the Birthday card I got her that said how much I cherish the special time we spend together. And she said that she's looking forward to having special time together for many years to come. I like her positive attitude. I hope she's still as healthy as your Grandma at 95. Based on how young of an 84 year old she is, I think our odds are good. Her mother, my Great Grandmother lived to be 92. So she's got good genes.

Thanks for your well wishes for our trip. I was indeed gone by the time you posted on the blog as we left early Thursday morning. We had lots of beach time and it was wonderful. I was glad to be back though. My 11 year old stepdaughter had a difficult weekend with her bio Mom who came to town and I hated it that all we could do was text her on the cruise ship to help her get through it (Texts were only $.50 each, calls were $2,50 a minute). So I was glad to be back to be able to comfort her. She and her bio Mom have a very rocky relationship. She resents her for loving me so much and makes it known. Remember how I mentioned a while back about her asking what would happen to her if anything happened to her Dad as she didn't want to have to go live with her bio Mom in Florida? Well, she told her this weekend that she didn't want to come to Florida to visit anymore and that she's really scared of losing me if anything ever happened to her Dad because she knows her bio Mom would not let her see me. Her Mom then told her that she hated her and that she didn't ever have to come there again and that maybe I should just legally adopt her. She told her that her brother was her favorite kid anyway and he can just come alone. This is a lot for an 11 year old to have to go through and she was very stressed and clingly when we got home. I loved the hugs, kisses and "I love you's", but it hurt to know why she was being so affectionate. So please pray for us that the situation works itself out without her being emotionally damaged over it. She's such a sweet, loving child. As I think I may have mentioned before her Mom moved to Florida when she was barely 2 and she'll be 12 next month. I've raised her since she was 2, so I do honestly feel like she's my own child. Life just isn't fair sometimes. Some kids, like Ella have a wonderful mother like yourself who loves and would do anything in the world for them and will fight for every extra minute of time they can get with them. And other mother's walk away from toddler's and barely see them throughout their entire childhood. I guess we will all understand this someday when we go to a place where none of this stuff ever happens again.

Back to work now. I'm cheating again and posting when I'm supposed to be working. But I needed a break. I will be checking back to see how your tests came back and praying for good results until then. Take care. Leisa

Hi Shawndra,

Today was a beautiful day in Southern California. Yesterday's rain washed the smog away, so we actually had blue skies (for once). The sun, though hidden behind the clouds for brief periods, poked its head out and made the day even more beautiful than it already was.

There is always the promise of sun behind the clouds, Shawndra. We continue to keep you, Doug and that beautiful little readhead in our prayers.
