Post christmas let down and chemo

I hope everyone had a very memorable Christmas as we did! It was wonderful out at the lake. Only thing is we don't get great sleep because the kids don't sleep well. But it was one of the best Christmas's in a long time for our family!!! It wasn't gifts that made it great, it was the family, togetherness, happiness and love. Sounds like a cheesy book doesn't it. I did have chemo starting the day after Christmas. This round didn't go as well I had agitation as well as I got sick the first night. I pretty much spent the last couple days in bed feeling in a fog and agitated. Today I feel a bit better, still tired and today is my emotional day when I have enough energy to let it all out! So hopefully tomorrow will be better. Thankfully my parents were there for me yesterday when I got my pump of and had to stay for fluids and medication. Thank you mom and dad! I am thankful that today is Saturday so doug was home and Angie was here to help with Ella. I am so lucky to have such great help. So hopefully I am on the up swing and soon we will go skiing. weee! I also found out that the doctor I saw recently from KU took my case to the group meeting with a bunch of physicians/surgeons and that a surgeon may consider me as a candidate for surgery as well as the doctor from Creighton. So it looks like I may have a few options. So this is good news. I wish you all a Happy New YEar! Leisa- I hope that you can think of all the great memories of your mother. I know it must hurt and be a very difficult time. You are all in my prayers! I think we are having a New years get together this year, so hopefully I will get my energy up so I will have a good time. Talk to you soon. shawndra

Your "cheesy" christmas description sounds great. We too spent it with the family, we gained a few new ones, as well as our loss, but it is great to have family around. Sounds like the treatment options are coming about. We will keep praying that they are positive steps to the new Shawndra! I am still envious of your ski trip, what wonderful times those are. Have a safe and happy new year, it is going to be a GREAT '08.

Hi Shawndra. I'm glad you had a great Christmas with your family at the lake. There's nothing better than the special times you spend with a loving family. I'm really sorry that chemo showed it's ugly side for you this week. I was a little worried that this may be the case when you hadn't posted anything in the last few days. Let those emotions out though. You need to be able to do that to clear your mind for the positive thoughts that are part of your ongoing battle that keep you so strong an courageous on the rest of the days. Thank you for thinking of me today and showing that you care in your blog despite how you've been feeling and your own struggles these past few days. It just reminds me what a sweet, caring person that you are. I got through the day today. 9 of us went to the cemetary, changed the flowers in Mom's vase from Christmas flowers to some other pretty warm flowers. Strange thing is, Mom had went with my
Grandma several years ago and they bought their plots together because she didn't want Grandma to have to do it on her own and she wanted Grandma to have peace in knowing that she would not be alone there. None of us would have ever dreamed that Mom would be there first. This is very hard on Grandma, of course. But talking about the flowers we put in the vase made me think of one of the good memories of Mom that you mentioned. She was quite the joker and when she was talking to the family about buying these plots, she was telling us that they had vases in the headstones. And she said, "All I know is that I want you to make sure that there are always pretty flowers in my vase". She was joking and trying to make light of the situation. But everytime I go to buy flowers, like I did at Hobby Lobby yesterday, I think of Mom's request and always choose them carefully to make sure they're very pretty. I use baby's breath and different kinds of greenery and carefully match the color scheme's. She was also quite the decorator and would be very pleased with how she always has pretty flowers in her vase. We went to lunch at Applebee's after leaving the cemetary and shared special memories of her. It was a bittersweet day. It's coming to a close now though and a new year is approaching. So it's time to start figuring out how we're going to ring it in. I still have no idea what we're doing. Maybe just dinner this year. I'm glad you have some plans. And that you will be feeling better by then so you can enjoy it to the fullest. And be sure to enjoy the anticipation of your upcoming ski trip. I know I always get really excited the weeks leading up to our trips. Traveling is one of my passions. And we do it every chance we get. Take care and have a wonderful New Year!! May God Bless you and make all of your hopes and dreams for 2008 come true. I will continue to pray daily for this. Leisa

I have been a reader of your blog since you began. I think about you and your family often and always look forward to reading your updates. I think I had a brief encounter with you in OP at a gas station on New Year's Eve. I was waiting to buy ice and you where on your phone at the register winding up your purchase. You turned and I caught your eye...I swore it was you and wanted to say something, but did not want to seem like an internet weirdo. I just wanted you to know I thought about you all evening and want to wish you a Happy New Year! I pray that 2008 will be a great year for you and your treatment options on your road to beating this terrible disease!
