Ella's Arm

I just wanted to let you all know, we saw Dr. Latz, the orthopedic surgeon, yesterday (thank you Adrianne for helping me see your husband, and thank you Kevin for taking your time to see us). He had good news. The growth plate isn't affected, phew, and it should heal quickly. It was broken all the way through the humerus but, no surgery or tweaking is required. What great news!!! I needed that. They put on a little harder cast on her; one that is a little more sturdy and water resistant. They only had white, but all her friends can sign it if they want. She is doing great. I am so proud of her. What a tough girl she is. On the right, Ella is hanging out with the neighbor girls.

I am doing well. This week flew by, as always. Nothing else really to report. Doug and I look forward to watching KU basketball this weekend. Let's hope they make it past the first round, ugh. We are planning on going to my parents lakehouse Saturday night for a little getaway. That will be fun. Maybe a little weanie roast and smores on the firepit. I can't wait.

I hope everyone enjoys their St. Patrick's day. Get a few kisses if you are irish! I am going to try to work it with my "Kiss Me" shirt. Love always. Shawndra

IMPORTANT: I forgot to tell you all this month is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Andrea suggested I inform everyone, which is very important. If you are 50 years old or older OR if you are having any GI symptoms you aren't sure about, please, please, get a colonoscopy. As with everything, if it is caught early it can be treatable. It is so important and it isn't bad. A little sleepy medicine is administered, and you take a nice needed nap, wake up and it is over. If you need a doctor, I have one I highly recommend. I don't want anyone else to go through this if they don't have to! Most importantly, take care of yourself. No one is going to do it for you! (Okay enough preaching) Happy pooping. Hehe.

You CRAZY girl!!! I'm glad you can be so personal with the rest of us and discuss BMs. Yes, I feel based on the situation that everyone who is NEARING or already 50 and above should get their colonoscopy done. Even if only for preventative medicine. So, be aware of your colon! This is the month to think about it! Glad Ella is doing well. Missing you!
Love,
Drea

Oh Drea...you haven't even heard the tip of the poop-talking iceburg! ;) After 2 colonoscopies, both in my 20s, I can honestly say there are many, many worse things one could experience...say a severe sunburn in the bahamas...or a brother who is 8 years younger...just kidding...sometimes. ;)
As Shawndra said, please be smart and see a doctor if you have any concerns or are getting older. Prevention is the best medicine. And it gives you a great excuse to show off that nice fanny you've been working on at the gym! ;)
Ella looks like she is doing great in her cast. I hope you had a wonderful night at the lakehouse. You'll have to take me to see it soon - I don't know if I've been since the construction began.
Here is an oldie, but goodie Irish Blessing from your half-Irish friend:
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
I love you. D

I love this pic (cast and all)! It looks like she loves the older girls! You can't keep that girl down-just like her mommy! I hope you had a great time at the lake and watching the KU game today-I saw about the last 40sec of the first half-they tortured the west coast with that USC/Texas game. Miss you all!

Shawndra,

I saw your site on Jennifer/Chris Ireland's blog. I have been lurking around and had to post when I saw Ella in her little cast.

I am glad all is going well for you! Hope you had a good time on Saturday! I love having those little getaways!

Shawndra-

I have been frequenting Jennifer Ireland's website and reading the latest blog entry I found the link to your blog. I am so amazed by your strength and the strength of Jennifer. Although I don't know either one of you personally, you will be in my thoughts, as Jennifer is even after her passing. You are an inspiration to all of us and I admire your courage!

Keep on cheering on those Jayhawks because it's your kind of spirit that helps the Hawks prevail in the tourney.

In my thoughts,
Anne
