lakehouse fire

I think my family is cursed. Last night, my parents lakehouse got struck by lightening and was on fire. Thankfully nobody was there. Apparently it struck the toilet in the room we consider Doug and my room so thankfully none of us were sitting on the toilet at that time! The wonderful firefighters did get the fire out with the fire damaging only our bedroom and another room upstairs. They did have to punch holes in the ceiling of all the other rooms upstairs to make sure there was no other hot spots. So the rest of the house was spared, we think... but it still is quite a bit of damage. My parents are being positive and even though upset they are thankful everyone is okay and that the house didn't burn to the ground. They just built this house a year and a half or so ago, so this house is fairly new. Doug and I were ready to go out there last night and see if we could help move furniture, clean, etc. But my parents didn't think there was much we could have done last night. They want the insurance company to see the damage before things are cleaned up. Thankfully it didn't burn to the ground. The firefighters said, if it weren't for the insulation in the house, it would have. Just another event in my families life, as I said before...I believe we have been cursed these past two years. We weren't this eventful before.
On another note, I want to thank my anonymous neighbor for dropping off the childproof door locks this morning! That was very kind of you. I would someday love to meet you in person. It is so mysterious, the anonymous neighbor, hehe. I also should thank the person who awhile ago put angels and I believe Saint Mary on our doorstep. I never thanked the anonymous person who did that, so I need to thank them for those angels watching over our house.
Ella is in daycare today so I am actually going to get out and go get a pedicure with a friend and then have lunch with a few friends. This will be quite a treat for me! It is so nice to be getting out a bit more with the nicer weather and all. I have also enjoyed having the windows open in the house and sleeping with them open and the fan on.. isn't that one of the best things. I just love that feeling!
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know what is going on here. I would love to hear from you all and what you are doing, enjoying, struggling with (if you want to share, you don't have to). I just feel like it is all about me, me,me all the time and I get tired of that. I know kind of weird since it is my blog. Oh well. Enjoy the day! The sun is coming out here after the rainy weather the last day or so. ahhhhh. When you here from me again, I will finally have pretty toes once again, hehe. Shawndra

Here is another idea for Ella's naptime - if she has a favorite baby or stuffed animal, maybe you could incorporate putting the doll to nap, ie. put the doll in a little cradle, cover her with a blanket, read her a story and tell Ella to make sure the doll takes her nap. That way, the focus is off of Ella's nap!

I also wanted to say thanks for sharing your blog with us. When I am having a Personal Pity Party, I only have to think about what you are going through and then I tell myself to snap out of it. Sometimes I feel like I have very little energy and I am healthy. I can only imagine how hard it is for you.

As for the fire at the lakehouse, it was in his plan that no one be at the lakehouse when lightning struck. We should always remember that if HE brings us to it, HE will bring us through it.

Have a great weekend and hopefully we will see some more sunshine!

Hi Shawndra,

Thank goodness no one was home when the lightning hit - and that the insulation in your room did its job. I hope your insurance company handles your claim quickly and without any hassles.

A day out with the girls sounds fun! My little sister and I spent yesterday being ladies of leisure; it really is one of the best ways to spend a day. And you get pretty toes out of the deal - what's not to like?

Today is a beautiful spring day in Southern California. I hope the sun is shining warmly on you and that you're enjoying your day out with friends.

Awesome news from Dr. Foster!!! Well, I am getting ready to head to Little Rock to take care of my Dad who is having surgery Monday and my sister who was in a car accident this past week. It all hits at once doesn't it!!!! I am sorry to hear about the lake house but lucky no one was there and it's fixable. You have a great weekend with those pretty toes and know there is lots of love coming your way. Melodie Chrisman

Well, what can I say. I'm just thankful no one was hurt. And the pot would have been a crappy place to go :)

The fire is awful, but no one was hurt and that is the important thing. I assume this house is at Lake Lotawana where they used to have a house, right? I remember going there for youth group. Fun times! I hope that everything will be alright.

Sounds like some good news from the doctors. I am sure you don't want to do any more chemo ever and who would blame you. I can't even imagine. Hope you continue to have really good news!

I still would really like to send you something since I am not there to make you food(although, my mom is and I am sure she would do that for you too) or do anything to help. E-mail me when you can.

I hope you have a great day out and about! I'm anxious to hear about your CT results, so please keep me posted.

I wish I would have thought about this sooner, but it would have been fun to get out on a double date before you start chemo again...maybe in one of your off weeks?!

Talk to you soon.

Love, d

Pretty toes! Shawndra, I'm so glad to see you in such good spirits.

I can't believe the news about the Micheal Meyers lake house! I'm so glad nobody was hurt. I hope everything is back ship-shape so the entire fam can enjoy the summer out there.

A couple weeks ago, my running crew ran the Get Your Rear in Gear in your honor. A t-shirt will be on its way to you soon... http://www.getyourrearingear.com

Shawndra, I've been reading your blog for sometime now. I was very close with Jennifer Irelands blog and now I have become very close to yours. I pray for your family everyday. I live close by in the neighboring city of Lee's Summit, MO and thought I'd share my blog with you to. If you ever want to laugh...pull it up and I'm sure I'll have something dumb on there. I have had 3 boys in a previous marriage and my husband has 3 kids from a previous marriage and we just had 1 (baby girl) 9 months ago. Needless to say its a zoo at times with 7 kiddos. I just started my blog at the beginning of April so if you get time, check it out. It's also cool to see the people that are reading about you.

I will continue to pray for you daily!!!! I feel that good things are coming your way.

My Blog is located at http://lovefor9.blogspot.com

Hi Shawndra,

I've been following your story for quite sometime, but I've never commented. My husband is going through a similar situation, and I don't want to bother you with the details. I just want you to know that you are often on my mind. My husband is going to Wake Forest on May 7th for a consultation on IHPC therapy. We are very nervous...If you have time please feel free to visit our website www.wentworthlivery.com and the Update on Craig page. You may also feel free to email me personally via the link on the site. I would like to hear more about your treatment at Creighton, we need some reassurance that this is the treatment he needs. We're scared, and I so admire your bravery and honesty. Keep up the fight, Anessa

A normal CEA level!? Praise God!! Don't let Satan steal your joy or encouragement. I realize you don't have a clean bill of health (yet) but you have to rejoice at every chance! I know you do...your personality shines through your blog...I love it! I'm sorry about the fire at the lakehouse! I'm sure it is a mess, but I'm thankful it wasn't worse.

2 Cor. 4:8 "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destoyed."

2 Cor. 4:6 "For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made his light shine in our hearts..."

Be encouraged! :-)

Praying for you,
Marcia Slack

Just found your blog. I will keep you in my prayers. You family is beautiful! I was diagnosed at 29 (6 months ago) with stage 3b colon cancer. I noticed that you said you have an aggressive cancer. What kind of patholgy was it. Also I was curious if you were tested or if you have HNPPC? Thanks for what you do. You are an inspiration!

Hi Shawndra,

I've been following your blog for a while now and I'm continually inspired by you. My sister, Jerri, was diagnosed with Advanced Cervical Cancer in February. She reads your blog and has found so much comfort from your story. She lives in the KC area too and she has a little girl who is 4. (Her little girl doesn't like bed time either!) Jerri is currently in TX receiving treatment at MD Anderson. She called me from there last week to make sure I read your blog and knew about your good news! We are so excited about the success of your surgery. She had surgery on March 5th so you were recovering together!

I'm so sorry to hear about your parent's lakehouse. What are the chances of that? We're kind of under the "curse" too. It seems like ever since her diagnosis we've had nothing but bad luck. No lightning strikes yet though!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. You are an amazing person and I hope and pray for a full recovery for you. My sister's blog is just now up and running. Only 3 posts so far but you're welcome to check it out. http://www.jerricravens-sum.blogspot.com/

Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Shawndra!
You make me laugh!!!!
I was diagnosed with breast cancer on May 24,'07, the next day I found out that I also have stage IV colon cancer. Talk about bad luck!!!!!
My friends and family are all convinced that I must be one of Job's decendants.
I am a florist, and in July my flower shop was hit by lightening. It got all the computers, phones, fax you name it. At least the building didn't burn.
I am NED right now, so I'm living it up. I read your blog often. You can check mine out if you'd like.
Hugs to you and your family,

Mark 11:22 Tells us to have faith in GOD and what ever we ask (IN JESUS NAME) and we believe with all our heart and there is NO doubt, whatever we ask we shall have. Mountains in our lives can be moved. You are still in GOD's hands..and will constantly be in my prayers.

May you and your Family be BLESSED!!
