Stomach Flu

Ewwwww, yes, I have been down with the stomach flu. That is why I haven't written in a few days. It started with a pounding headache on Sunday afternoon, right before the KU game. I just curled up to watch the game and I started not to feel so good to my stomach. Eventually the vomiting started and pretty much continued all through the night. I was basically just dry heaving the rest of the night. IT was miserable. Doug was up with me every time, standing at attention as I hurled into the bucket just waiting to take the bucket, clean it up and bring it back to me! What a husband!!! He is truly amazing. You all don't even realize all he does. He is always picking up my slack. and that is a lot of slack! It just seems to be one thing after another for me I just wish this bad dream would go away. So I have been hibernating again in the house, which it really hasn't been all that nice out yet that I can tell. So I don't know that I really want to get out anyway until it is a bit warmer! I am tired of cold, my body just can't handle it anymore!
I am on the mend but still not 100%, getting there though! I am working on eating little bits frequently so my stomach doesn't get overloaded. It won't allow much anyway, I think my stomach has shrunk quite a bit! Anyway, that is what I have been up to.
I was bummed because I turned down the opportunity to go to the final four. Doug and I both did. This is something we have done together in the past and love but unfortunately Doug doesn't want to take anymore work off than he has to and I don't think I really have the energy to go. I would love to be in San Antonio though this weekend!!! Ugh.
Well I hope you all are doing well, staying healthy and happy. Talk to you all soon. Shawndra

Poor thing!! I hope the flu is gone and you will feel like getting out and enjoying the nice weather that is supposedly heading our way!
I can't wait to spend some time with you. I will call later this week to see how you feel and want to set something up for Friday, the 18th, if you are in town.
Hang in there - 100% is just around the corner!!

When my kids are sick, I put two plastic bags (from the grocery store or Wal-Mart)in the "barf bucket." It's a lot easier to clean up... just tie up the bags and throw them in the trash!

Nice weather is hopefully just around the corner. Coping with everything and then being stuck inside when you're sick is no fun. We all need a few sunny, nice days to boost our spirits. Maybe we all need to pray for that - it couldn't hurt, right?!?

this late in the season flu is BAD! I have heard so many people that have been hit by it. On top of trying to recover from surgery and having that nasty flu must really have packed a wallop, but hopefully you are on the upswing. And I think warmer weather is on it's way...that should help with the mood. Way yot go Doug, you must be one great guy!

Shawndra, I'm sorry to hear that you got the flu. That stinks. You're immune system must be on the weak side with all you've been through and understandably so. Glad you're feeling better though.

The cold westher is getting old. Hopefully we're close to turning the corner and we can all open up the windows when inside and spend a lot more time outside. I'm ready for some outdoor activities for sure. My hubby's birthday was Sunday and I got him Royal's/Yankees tickets for April 10th. He's from New Jersey. So I get them for him every year for his birthday since he's a huge Yankee's fan. Anyway, I saw the long ranger weather forecast tonight and they showed a high of 78 for next Thursday. Of course we know how much weight the long rangers carry here in the midwest. But I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for a nice night for baseball to kickoff spring. Kind of strange that I just mentioned baseball and kickoff in the same sentence, huh?

I hope you continue to get better each day and will pray for this for you each day. I hope Ella is doing well and is sleeping in a little later. You do have a wonderful husband. And you're a very lucky girl to have that kind of support. It makes the difficulties you've had in your life a little more bearable. Doug is clearly a good man.

I hsve a very good girlfriend who I've been friends with since Jr. High who is having brain surgery on April 8th to remove a tumor and will follow up with chemo. Her name is Laura and I gave her your website several weeks ago. I don't know if she's following it yet or not. She has been struggling with severe, dibilitating headaches and I don't know how much she's able to read. She's a single parent of a 14 yr. old son. This will be her 3rd brain surgery. The last one was around 8 years ago. And she's been without the kind of support you're so lucky to have in her first 2 surgeries and will once again be doing this alone. Of course, there will be friends and family to support her. And her son is very loving and supportive. But I think you'll agree that it's not the same as having someone who shares your bed to be able to grab and clean your buckets for you. So please keep her in your prayers. She has a very rough road ahead and my heart just aches for her. She's only 42 snd has been through so much in her life. I juat hate it that she has to do this again.

I will keep you posted snd you keep us posted when you're up to it. Love and prayers to you Shawndra. God bless & take care.

I am so sorry you have been sick. The only good thing about that illness is that it doesn't last very long.
Hope you are recovering from the surgery.

GO KANSAS!

Dear Shawndra,
I was a little concerned when I read about your stomach flu. If you haven't been around anyone that has had it and it sticks around longer than a couple of days, please go get checked. Major, major surgery is what you just went through and it could be an after affect.

You three people are always on my mind. What a loving little family and you are the bravest thing in your posts. I could not do what you are doing. And bless your husband forever for the things that he is doing for you and Ella.

Blessings on your family,
Marie

That is awful that you had to suffer with the stomach flu! I am sure you are bummed about missing the Final Four. We will all cheer for our Jayhawks. Amy (Larkin) Hopkins sent this to me today and I thought you would enjoy it!

Our Father, who art in Lawrence,
Hallowed be thy Game.
Thy tourney come,
Thy championship will be done,
In San Antonio as it is in Allen Field House.
Give us this day our deserved victories.
And forgive us our turnovers,
As we forgive Roy who double-crossed against us.
And lead us not into defeat,
But deliver us from East Coast bias,
For Kansas is the basketball kingdom,
And the tradition,
And the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

Take care!
