long nails suck sometimes....

Like this. I can barely write now. My nails have grown so since I have been off chemo, I wish my boobs grew with then. Sorry it has been so long, lots has been happening, as you can imagine. I am tucked into my hospital bed at home near our bed, just a few bodies apart.ugh. I feel like a prisoner, I have to hook atleast two tubes to the bed everynight. lots of changing dressings on wounds, taking care of my port-a-cath and pic line. I know this is overwhelming for those of you not medical.
The first few days home I was pretty out of it, sleeping a lot. I finally came around about Wednesday I believe. A lot of this is hazzy! I am weak, weaker than I have ever been since a surgery! That shocked me. I am getting stronger but I still can't just get up and go somewhere, I have to have help. And the stairs, yikes two guys have to firefighter training lift me like my sister the fabulous, all knowing Physical Therapist taught us. Thanks dre!. So this is my life at the moment.
I haven't had the chance to read my email, actually I'm kind of scared to see how many there are. Thank you all for your support. Thank you to the neighborhood for the blue ribbons on all entrance trees! You all amaze me more and more every day.

As you all now I am probably reaching the end of this battle. I continue to get stronger and still doing most of what I can to continue to be here with you all. I know a lot of people have contacted my immediately family to find a time to come and see me. I am overwhelmed with outpouring of love. I need to take control of it because it is getting too hard for everyone. So to try to get this organized I would appreciate if you would call ME, not my husband, my parents or my sister. I am going to try to be in control of this one. I will give you all my information and we can make plans.

Phone number 913-226-0171 (If I don't answer I will get back to you, and please don't abuse this number)

Email: shawndrab@hotmail.com (I am overwhelmed with them so phone might be easier)
Thank you for all your patience, trust me I am just regaining the happenings in my world and what has happened these past several weeks/months. I have missed you and look forward to hearing from you!

Shawndra, I am praying for you! It's nice to "hear" from you and I'm so thankful that you are feeling your strength return. I just wanted, also, to share a blog about a little boy who was diagnosed with leukemia. In the summer he was sent home because the doctors said there was no more they could do. However, his parents started "alternative" treatments, mainly herbal and diet, and as of a few weeks ago he is in remission. It's truly miraculous. You can read about him here http://www.jaymun.com/journal/2009_02_02/
Take care! The Lord is being bombarded with prayers!

When weak after surgery my hospital bed comfort improved once I started sleeping with oxygen. I also found that squeezing a foam rubber ball in my hand relieved stress and kept up some arm tone which helped support and balance my weak legs. Spend your time sitting upright; rest as needed but only lie down if your intention is to sleep.

Hold Fast & read Ella some good stories.

Like others who read this blog, we've never met though I wish our paths had crossed at some point!

There have been times I've felt like a stalker checking your blog several times a day (morning, lunch & evening) to see if anything new has been posted! In fact, even my husband & son ask how you are doing - ha!

Your faith, your courage and your bluntness during this journey have been an inspiration to many. Your blog is a daily reminder to put life in perspective. You've showed us all that happiness is the experience of living every minute of your life with gratitude, grace and most of all love for family & friends!

Sometimes, it's incredibly difficult to know what our purpose on earth is...especially when it's cut short in our eyes. You've done more with your life, especially these past few years, than many could achieve in a lifetime. You've reached many people...spreading a message of hope...a message of awareness to be more proactive in our health...a message of unbelievable inner strength even as you're preparing to end this journey.

We will meet one day...in a place not really so far away. When my father-in-law slipped away from lung cancer last year, I explained to my son that it's like he's leaving us on a boat with no oars headed across a pond. We're yelling "come back...don't go...we love you, we miss you already!", but at the same time...others (loved ones, friends, people who meant something to him whether they realized it at the time or not) are waiting for him and beaming with excitement to greet him on the other side of that pond. It's something I read a long time ago and really stuck with me. You, Shawndra Turner, are one of those people for me and I for one, can't wait to meet you there!

Prayers for peace for you and your family!

Cheers!

I think of you and pray for you daily, Shawndra. I found this story on Stephanie Vest's website that someone posted and I think it is wonderful!

The Dragon Fly

Once, in a little pond, in the muddy water under the lily pads, there lived a little water beetle in a community of water beetles. They lived a simple and comfortable life in the pond with few disturbances and interruptions.

Once in a while, sadness would come to the community when one of their fellow beetles would climb the stem of a lily pad and would never be seen again. They knew when this happened; their friend was dead, gone forever.

Then, one day, one little water beetle felt an irresistible urge to climb up that stem. However, he was determined that he would not leave forever. He would come back and tell his friends what he had found at the top.

When he reached the top and climbed out of the water onto the surface of the lily pad, he was so tired, and the sun felt so warm, that he decided he must take a nap. As he slept, his body changed and when he woke up, he had turned into a beautiful blue-tailed dragonfly with broad wings and a slender body designed for flying.

So, fly he did! And, as he soared he saw the beauty of a whole new world and a far superior way of life to what he had never known existed.

Then he remembered his beetle friends and how they were thinking by now he was dead. He wanted to go back to tell them, and explain to them that he was now more alive than he had ever been before. His life had been fulfilled rather than ended.

But, his new body would not go down into the water. He could not get back to tell his friends the good news. Then he understood that their time would come, when they, too, would know what he now knew. So, he raised his wings and flew off into his joyous new life!

I'm so glad to hear those great news.
Doug has been able to go to work, too.
Andrea's been very tired, and we all understand you all need to rest to regain strength.

We keep praying for all of your strength, fun, joy, and pain free Shwandra able to enjoy a family gathering, not being asleep as much either as before.

We keep on praying for your peace as well as Knocking at HIS door in your favor.

Shawndra-
like many others who are praying for you I too found you through the Jennifer Ireland site. I know that there are so many out there from your own site praying but I wanted you and your family to know of another site that I have came across__colesfoundation.com(it seems to updates from personal sites if you register.) Hope you are resting well and enjoying many precious moments with your family.

THANK YOU ROSWITA for the update. It has been awhile since the faithful fan club has been updated. I totally understand the immed. family not having time for an update but those of us who do not know Shawndras family personally but pray for her daily, it is greatly appreciated when we can know how Shawndra is.
Like I have said before, its hard to believe you can have such hopes & compassion for a young woman you only know through words but, we have followed her words through some ups & downs and we continue to pray for her, cheer her on and especially care about how she is.
Ella, your mother has changed many people in this world. I know you will always be proud to be her daughter.
Shawndra, you are such a spirited fighter with obviously more to do. To get up & put make up on & walk down your stairs & enjoy a party..., thats more living than some well people do. Ive said it before & I will say it again, you are simply amazing!!
My computer is working again. Ive checked in everyday but I would lose my connection after I hit send & it would lose my msg. I'll check in again tom., God Bless You All, Vickie in J.C., Mo.

Shawndra...I admire the heck out of you, girl. I check in every day. You're always in my prayers, though I have never met you. You've helped change the way I view my own life, and words can't express how much that means. Keep fighting, and I look forward to the day you're able to say you're in top shape ;o)

Its Tuesday morning & the sun is shining. Suppose to be BEAUTIFUL today & even more so tomorrow. My hope is that Shawndra has gotten stronger, not weaker, so that she may feel the warmth of the sun apon her face & watch her sweet Ella play outside! I know we all have spring fever so badly. The fresh air & the cool breeze may do EVERYONE wonders!!
Just know that I am thinking of you & checking on you today..., can anyone who checks on Shawndra here tell us anything..., hopefully that she is doing okay? God Bless, Vickie in J.C., Mo.

Shawndra's condition remains the same. She is enjoying time with her family and friends. When/if she is up to it I'm sure she will blog and if things change and she is unable to, someone will update the blog world. In the meantime, you can assume that things continue to remain unchanged unless you read otherwise. Shawndra truly appreciates everyone's thoughts.

Hi Shawndra, just wanting to let you know that I am checking on you today & praying for you today. I think about you often & pray for the miracle that you will just get stronger & stronger & miraculously be cured. I know it can happen & I know God hears our prayers. Just thinking that you are out enjoying the weather makes me smile.
I'm so glad to know thats how you were spending yesterday. When we don't hear from you in awhile, I think it scares us to think you could be in pain & suffering.
Just knowing that you are enjoying your life is such wonderful news. I may not know you personally but you have touched my heart with your stories & witt.
God Bless you, Vickie in J.C., Mo.
